Tried & Tested: Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel

As much as I love good skin and skin care, I can be such a lazy slob when it actually comes to doing anything about it...and unfortunately my skin suffers because of my bad habits. One thing I find especially tedious is exfoliation.

I had been on the search for a no-fuss, easy and quick means of exfoliation to integrate into my weekly home facials routine and when I discovered the Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel I thought this would be something ideal. I googled the product and upon finding a large number of positive reviews, went ahead and bought it.

It's an enzyme peel so that means you can exfoliate by just applying the product all over your face (avoiding the eyes of course) and neck, forget about it for 15 minutes and then wash it off. Simple! Once on, it doesn't even feel messy so that was a BIG plus point and it smells wonderful. You don't even need much as 3 small squeezes are always enough for my (fairly large) face.

I've been using this peel once a week for around a month  now and I can confidently say it has made quite a difference. My skin had been looking rather dull due to sickness, fatigue and general carelessness and this product helped reduce the dullness and made my skin look clear and healthy again.  It's based on natural fruit enzymes and isn't granular, making it relatively mild. I have combination skin and haven't experienced any breakouts except when I use it too close to my lips. The skin around my mouth is very sensitive so it gets a little irritated if the product gets too close, but nothing too serious to make me stop using the peel.

I really love this product and plan to continue using it even after my first tube gets over.

Switch To Nutella At Switch Dubai

I was recently invited to the Switch To Nutella event held at the Switch restaurant to celebrate the launch of its Nutella Bar - serving a menu based entirely on Nutella.

Admittedly, I'm not the world's biggest Nutella fan, so I was curious to discover what they might have come up with using the stuff and whether or not they would convince me to give Nutella another try.

At the event, I got to try the Nutella pizza (yup! you read that right), some Nutella brownies and my favourite - Nutella puffs. The puffs were basically dumplings filled with Nutella...but they really won me over! As soon as I bit into one, gooey, sweet Nutella oozed into my mouth filling it with its chocolaty goodness, and I simply couldn't stop myself from having a few more. The Nutella brownie was equally to-die-for.
Besides these dishes, and the pizza, you can get your Nutella fix at Switch from crepes, waffles and much more.

While at the restaurant, I also got to taste Switch's camel burgers and I kid you not, they were one of the best burgers I've ever had. Not only was I thinking that the camel burgers wouldn't be that great, I was expecting them to taste funny...but I'm glad to say I was wrong. I totally LOVED them!

Spa Treatment Review: Balinese Massage at Polished Spa

I'm back! I'm so sorry to have disappeared for a week but my laptop nearly died on me and I had to get it fixed. Anyway, while I was away, I was invited by Polished Spa in Sharjah for the most amazing Balinese massage on Wednesday and I wanted to write a little review it here.

I was greeted by the owner Najla Al Ansari who showed me around her beautiful spa. Taking a look around the spa, it was evident that Najla has put in a lot of work into it. There is a great attention to detail in both, the space and service.

I was served a cool cup of delicious tea. That helped calm me down after the ride up to the spa in this heat! While I sipped on that, I met my therapist. She gave me a little description of the massage, its benefits and inquired about my medical conditions if any. She asked if there was any area of concern that I needed her to focus on and told me to let her know as I soon as I experienced any discomfort.

After I had changed into my robe, the therapist first gave my feet a wash..and no! they don't stink :p After that, whatever happened is a dreamy haze. The tranquil interiors, the soft soothing music, the distant sound of flowing water set the stage for the perfect escape...especially in this weather! The therapist was careful to give each limb enough time before working on my back and shoulders. As I had told her to concentrate on that area, she applied the most pressure there, using different strokes and techniques. She applied a lot of pressure (but never more than I could bear) and I could feel my muscles relaxing. The jasmine essential oil (they use the Thai brand Panpuri) she used left me feeling pampered. All in all, it was a very good experience and I found myself dozing off on more than one occasion...that's a good sign! Right? Once the massage was over, I was left alone for a while to rest before being served some delicious lavender tea.

Balinese massages are supposed to boost circulation and give a deep tissue and muscular massage. After the massage, I felt not only relaxed, but I really did feel my back was less stiffer, I felt calm and it's gotten a little easier for me to move around. I would definitely recommend the Balinese massage at the Polished Spa to anyone, anytime!

Polished Spa have an variety of treatments...massages, body scrubs, facial, hair conditioning treatments, tanning and different kinds of mani/pedis. They even have a lot of amazing products for sale..one that stood out the most for me is the Mama Mio line. Even though I'm not pregnant and I haven't had any kids, I am going to get some Mama Mio cellulite busting, skin tightening products. I know this brand is very popular with celebrities and so I can't wait to try it!

Polished Spa is located behind University Road Sharjah and is in close proximity to Emirates Road.

Get To Know: Doha based designer Selina Farooqui

The talented Selina Farooqui (right)

I recently came across Selina Farooqui's work and was so impressed by her creativity that I had to find out more!
Selina is based in Doha, Qatar but her desings are soon coming to Dubai.

I got the chance to ask her a few questions:

Please tell us about yourself.
My name is Selina Farooqui, I’m 24 years old and I’m originally from India. I would describe myself as a creative, quirky perfectionist, fashion designer and dreamer. Based in Doha, Qatar, I manage and design for my own fashion label Selina Farooqui. The brand image is a collaboration between Indian and Arabic influences on contemporary styled garments. The aesthetic behind my designs reflect my background, being brought up in an Indian household…amongst a westernized community…in the Middle East. The unique combinations of fabrics, details, embellishments, colors and use of textures are what I believe set me apart from my competitors. The clothes are feminine and rich in detail, yet easy to wear and versatile for a range of occasions depending on how you choose to style them.
How long have you been designing for? How did you get into the field?
I started my brand in August 2010, a year before graduating from the Virginia Commonwealth University, School of the Arts in Qatar. It was actually a jacket design in one of my collections I made during my junior year at university that caught the interest of a local boutique here in Doha, and from then on, the adventure began. I still have that jacket till today, it has become a signature piece! Learning the business side of fashion was a challenge at first, but through my experiences, I grew and developed my idea of a fashion label into a strong brand and identity.
Your inspiration when it comes to designing?
A lot of my inspirations come from architecture and handicrafts. I love to mix traditional, ethnic touches with contemporary and modern materials and silhouettes.
How would y ou describe you own personal style and what influences it.
My personal style is ever changing, depends on my mood, where I’m going, what day of the week it is! One day I like wearing bold, bright colors, the next I’m in feminine, light pastels. I’m drawn to so many different styles and looks in fashion, I think that’s what makes me as a designer able to create something that’s versatile and fresh every season. As a designer, our job is to be never be a one-note.
Designers you love?
Lanvin, Dolce & Gabbana for their ultra glamorous, over the top, luxury
Valentino, Nina Ricci for their soft, feminine and dreamy aesthetic
Dries Van Noten for his constant innovation with fashion while maintaining styles that are wearable and desirable
Where are your clothes available? Do you stock in the UAE? If not, any plans?
My current collection for 2012 is available at Impression Boutique in The Pearl-Qatar. This is the hottest boutique in the country’s most prestigious retail address. I will also be available in one of my all time favorite boutiques, S*uce in Dubai later this month!

L'Occitane's Almond Shower Scrub

I bought this shower scrub from the L'Occitane store in  Dubai Mall last month and although it's suitable for daily use, I have only been using it once or twice a week.

The almond flakes and crushed almond shells gently exfoliate while the sweet almond oil leaves the skin hydrated and incredibly gentle to touch!

The only con is that I found it a little too mild for myself. I personally prefer scrubs that are a little more grittier so after I'm done scrubbing my body with this, I go over it once more with a soft wet loofah. But once I'm done,  my skin looks clearer, feels unbelievably soft and beautifully fragrant! I LOVE it!!!

For those of you who prefer gentle daily exfoliation, this scrub is perfect!!

Neon Bling: Jewels By Sogol's latest collection

I love the summery neon hues of this collection from Jewels By Sogol.
What I love is the fact that they look like traditional fine jewellery but with a trendy, fun twist of neon.
